About the Show

The PovertyNeck Hillbillies began as a local band doing fairs and small nightclubs throughout Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and have taken its music to another level in the past year. It is nearly impossible for them to play small venues in Southwestern Pennsylvania any more because the crowds are too large. In August 2003, the Hillbillies released their debut CD, Hillbilly State of Mind, produced by Bob Corbin (noted songwriter for Alabama, Hank Williams, Jr., and Kenny Rogers). The disc showcases their vocal and instrumental skills while capturing the excitement of their live performances. Highlights include the playful single “Mr. Right Now,” a favorite on local radio; the tearjerker ballad “Fly,” written by singer Chris Abbondanza; “Coming to See You,” an up-tempo concert favorite penned by fiddle player Chris Higbee; and a rollicking country remake of Tonic's “If You Could Only See.” Their self-titled debut album on Rust Records, featuring “The Hillbilly Way” and “Mr. Right Now” was released in June.
