About the Show
London’s Sunday Telegraph calls Wilco “the world’s most exciting rock band.” Don’t miss your chance to see them at West Virginia University. Wilco will play the Mountainlair Ballrooms on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Showtime is 10 p.m. Tickets go on sale Monday (Sept. 11) at 9 a.m. at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices, all ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.com or by phone 293-SHOW (7469) or 292-0220.
Wilco is Jeff Tweedy (guitars, vocals), John Stirratt (bass, vocals), Glenn Kotche (drums, percussion), Mikael Jorgensen (keyboards), Nels Cline (guitar) and Pat Sansone (guitars, keyboards, vocals). In the past 10 years the band has released eight albums, won two Grammys—for 2004’s A Ghost is Born—and had two albums (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Being There) and a DVD (I Am Trying to Break Your Heart) certified gold. They have been heralded by critics everywhere. Spin magazine says Wilco is “capable of nearly anything.”
The band’s latest release is a live disc, Kicking Television—Live in Chicago, recorded in their hometown of Chicago at the The Vic Theatre. This album, mixed by studio veteran Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews), captures the energy, excitement, clarity and musicality that continues to earn Wilco praise around the world for their live shows. The Buffalo News raves, “there is no band in this country matching the blend of avant-garde smarts, twisted leanings and genuine folk- and country-inflected songwriting genius of Wilco.”
