About the Show
Boys Like Girls burst onto the music scene with their debut album in August 2006. The self-titled disc, brimming with songs about love and heartbreak, defined the band’s purpose and name, which they consider a social commentary on the constant chase between boys and girls. Generating two massive crossover hits—“Hero/Heroine” and “The Great Escape”—the RIAA Gold-certified album spent more than 40 weeks on the charts, reaching #1 on Billboard’s Top New Artist sales chart for three weeks in June 2007.
Joining Boys Like Girls will be emo-pop band Cute is What We Aim For. The Buffalo, N.Y., quartet emerged in 2006 with its debut album, The Same Old Blood Rush with a New Touch. The band’s second disc, Rotation, showcases its mature new sound and has already settled comfortably onto the Billboard charts. Produced by Goldfinger’s John Feldman, the album draws inspiration from classic songwriters like Tom Petty and John Lennon. “We’re not 17 anymore,” said vocalist Shaant Hacikyan. “I think this record is going to do such incredible things and launch us to another level.”
Also performing is Lights, a female artist otherwise known as Valerie Poxleitner. A synth-pop singer-songwriter from Toronto, Lights has had four songs featured in Old Navy commercials in 2008, including her most recent hit, “The Last Thing on Your Mind.” Compared to Vanessa Carlton for her high-pitched, soft vocals, Lights names Björk, Phil Collins and ABBA as her greatest musical influences. Recently signed to Doghouse Records, the singer’s debut EP will be released later this month.
