About the Show

Founded in 1984 by human rights activist Ray Barnett, the African Children’s Choir is comprised of 26 children ages seven to 11 who have lost one or both parents to poverty or disease. Rwanda, Ghana, Nigeria, the Sudan, Kenya, Somalia and South Africa are represented. The Choir has performed before Kofi Annan at the UN General Assemby Hall, with Bobby McFerrin at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and at Nelson Mandela’s AIDS awareness concert in South Africa. Their music is a joyful blend of song and dance featuring more than ten languages and unique cultural dancing plus gospel favorites. Much of the music is accompanied on traditional instruments played by the children. The African Children’s Choir recently lent their powerful voice to the title track of contemporary Christian artist Michael W. Smith’s latest album, A New Hallelujah. The Choir’s contemplative pieces share powerful stories of survival and determination in an attempt to raise awareness of the plight of the orphaned and abandoned. From the “Lost Boys” of the Sudan to supporting centers for AIDS orphans in South Africa, the Choir’s efforts are helping to support almost 8,000 underprivileged children. You won’t want to miss this stirring experience.
