Grammy Award-winner Cage the Elephant to headline FallFest 2017
Concert begins at 5 p.m.; Gates open at 4 p.m.
West Virginia University’s annual FallFest concert will be held Tuesday, Aug.15,
on the Evansdale Rec Fields adjacent to the Student Rec Center. The show begins
at 5 p.m. and will include performances by Cage the Elephant, 21 Savage and RL
Grime. Cage the Elephant will close the show. FallFest is FREE and open to WVU
Students only. Students must present their valid WVU Student ID to enter. Gates
open at 4 p.m.
Alternative rockers Cage the Elephant – Matt Shultz (vocals), Brad Shultz (guitar),
Daniel Tichenor (bass) and Jared Champion (drums) may hail from Bowling Green,
Kentucky, but their first step to fame came from chart success in England, where
they had relocated before the release of their first album. The band has since
released six albums. Cage the Elephant’s self-titled debut album garnered both
commercial and critical success and the band earned a Grammy Award for Best Rock
Album for 2016’s “Tell Me I’m Pretty.” Their latest release, “Unpeeled,” is their
second live album and chronicles a series of intimate, stripped-down performances
that the band played earlier this year.
Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage began his career as a member of the Slaughtergang.
Honored by XXL magazine as with a mention on their 2016 Freshman Class list, 21
recently performed at Lollapalooza 2017. His collaboration with producer Metro
Boomin, “Savage Mode,” has been called one of the most gripping rap records of
this decade. This album launched 21 from the hip-hop underground to the hip-hop
limelight. 21 dropped his, “Issa Album,” last month. Complex Music.com describes
the record as “at turns brash and thoughtful, pop and serrated” and says it allows
the rapper to reveal himself as a dynamic vocalist. Critics praise 21’s disarmingly
slow flow, calling it “laconic in a way that implies tension and takes care with
each syllable.”
Los Angeles-based DJ/producer RL Grime combines electro, hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass and
other styles for his intense productions. His live performances have been celebrated
as an unparalleled force, making him the new darling of dance. Grime has graced
the biggest festival stages worldwide, including Coachella in Los Angeles, Lollapalooza
in Buenos Aires and STORM in Shanghai.
