Mountain Stage has been the home of live music on public radio for nearly 40 years. The show is taped before a live audience and then broadcast to more than 280 stations across America. Those in attendance April 28 will be part of the live radio audience.

Ruthie Foster is a veteran blues artist whose take on Americana includes plenty of soul, blues and gospel. Her ninth studio album “Healing Time” represents a new highwater mark for Foster as it features songs that possess pure power like a tidal wave of musical generosity. Foster’s accomplished career includes multiple Grammy nominations and collaborations with fellow luminaries Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks.

Charlie Mars is a Mississippi born singer and songwriter who blends country and folk music, creating poignant, earthy sounds. Charlie’s latest album, "Times Have Changed," is rooted in folk-pop, but nourished with country, soul, laid-back reggae grooves and his love for the languid. The album chronicles Mars’ path from a restless young wanderer seeking adventure, escape, love and truth, to the man who’s discovered that his road to happiness is a gravel drive leading to a porch perfect for viewing actual stars.

The Wandering Hearts are a London based alt-country and folk Americana group that is influenced by Simon and Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, The Milk Carton Kids and Crosby, Stills, Nash &Young. The group is known for its world-class three-part harmonies and was nominated for UK Album of the Year at the UK Americana Awards 2022. Their new album “Mother” features folk storytelling and their signature harmonies and is currently No. 4 on the UK Official Folk Albums chart.

Fellow Pynins is an Ashland, Oregon, based duo who combines a bucolic sense of vocal harmony and song crafting rooted in the balladry tradition. The duo consists of Dani Aubert who plays claw-hammer banjo and bouzouki and Ian George who plays guitar and mandolin. The two are songwriters, collectors and interpreters. All the songs on their album “Lady Mondegreen” were learned person to person from individuals the met while on a 10-month song collecting trip through Europe, the UK and Ireland. Their music has been described by “fRoots Magazine” as “outstanding harmony singing on a recording full of love.”

Rebecca Porter forges her way in country music with songs that are both heartfelt and honest. Born in Guam raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, Porter balances distinctive storytelling with the dynamics of her commanding voice to create a display of soulful classic country. Audiences love her honky-tonk infused sound.

David Mayfield will host the April 28 show at the WVU Canady Creative Arts Center. Mayfield is an Americana singer and songwriter with deep roots in bluegrass and folk music. He is a Grammy-nominated producer and a celebrated band leader who is also a gifted entertainer.
