The Kentucky Headhunters—brothers Richard (guitar) and Fred (drums) Young, Ricky Lee (lead vocals) and Doug Phelps (bass) and cousin Greg Martin (lead guitar) brought their unique brand of music to the WVU Coliseum in 1991. These bestselling country rockers were one of the first bands to blend honky tonk, blues and southern rock in a way that would appeal to both country and rock audiences.

Their efforts earned them the 1989 Top New Vocal Duet or Group award from the Academy of Country Music and a Grammy award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for "Pickin' on Nashville" in 1990. They were named Vocal Group of the Year two years running by the Country Music Association.

The Headhunters' 1991 album "Electric Barnyard" made Classic Rock History.com's list of Best Rock Albums.
