The Marshall Tucker Band got its start in Spartanburg, South Carolina, when Doug Gray teamed up with Tommy and Toy Caldwell, Paul T. Riddle, George McCorkle and Jerry Eubanks, and borrowed the name "Marshall Tucker" from a piano tuner whose name was found on a key ring in their old rehearsal space.

By the time they performed in Morgantown in 1978—the show had been originally scheduled for December 1977 but had to be postponed due to snow—the band had recorded seven studio albums and three live records. Nearly 6,500 fans packed the Coliseum to hear such favorites as "Can't You See," "Fire on the Mountain" and "Heard it in a Love Song."

The average ticket price was $6.50
