R&B legend Patti LaBelle entertained an enthusiastic Fall Family Weekend crowd at the WVU Coliseum in September 2002.

Widely regarded as the queen of rock and soul music, LaBelle has received acclaim for many of her songs, including "Lady Marmalade," "When You Talk About Love" and "New Attitude." She began her career as part of the Ordettes in 1959, who became the Bluebelles in 1961. Her success as a solo artist started in 1983 when she released her hit album " I'm in Love Again."

"It was a sight to see," wrote The Dominion Post's Matthew Roberson. "Everyone gave standing ovations to favorites like 'On My Own' and the recently covered 'Lady Marmalade.' Patti ruled the night, as neon and white lights flashed at her cue, and backup singers dueled vocally with her. And she directed it all."
